When Google Calendar is not syncing, open calendar.google.com in a browser first: if the event is there, the fault is on the device, and on Android it is usually the Calendar switch under Account sync, the Sync setting on a calendar you created, or stale app data. If the event is missing on the web as well, the cause is the account or calendar it was saved to, or the settings that let Gmail add events.
Check calendar.google.com before changing any settings
The web version of Google Calendar reads straight from Google's servers, so it shows whether the problem is the event or the device. Sign in at calendar.google.com on a computer with the same Google account the phone uses.
- The event is on the web but not on the phone. Google has the event and the phone is not receiving it. Work through the Android fixes below.
- The event is missing on the web too. It never reached that account. It may have been saved to a different account or a calendar that belongs to someone else, or it is a Gmail booking that Google did not add. The sections on Gmail events and on web sign-in cover those cases.
- The event is on the web, but under a calendar you can't see on the phone. Check the box next to that calendar in the web sidebar, then check the same calendar on the phone.
Google's own troubleshooting starts with the basics: confirm mobile data or Wi-Fi is on and airplane mode is off before anything else.
Turn on Calendar under Account sync on Android
A common reason Google Calendar is not syncing with Android is that the Google account is on the phone with calendar sync switched off. Android keeps a separate sync switch for each kind of data on each account, and turning Calendar off stops new events arriving without signing anything out.
- Open the phone's Settings app.
- Go to Passwords, passkeys & accounts and tap the Google account that owns the calendar.
- Tap Account sync and turn on Calendar.
These labels come from Google's Android sync troubleshooting page (checked 29 October 2026). Google notes that settings vary by device, so on a Samsung or other phone the menu may be named Accounts or Accounts and backup instead. Look for the Google account and its Account sync screen rather than an exact path.
If you have more than one Google account on the phone, check the switch on the account that owns the missing events. Each account syncs on its own.
Turn on Sync for calendars you created in the Google Calendar app
Inside the Google Calendar app, each calendar you created has its own Sync setting, and one with sync off never downloads new events even when Account sync is on. This is a likely cause when a calendar you created is stuck while your main calendar updates normally.
- Open the Google Calendar app and tap Menu.
- Tap Settings, then tap the name of the calendar that is not syncing. If it isn't listed, tap Show more.
- Turn on Sync at the top of the page.
Your primary calendar has no Sync setting. It shows as Events in the app unless you renamed it, and it follows the Calendar switch under Account sync instead.
Then check that the calendar is visible: open Menu again and make sure the box next to the calendar is ticked. An unticked calendar hides its events on screen, which looks exactly like a sync failure. Google lists both checks on its Android sync troubleshooting page (checked 29 October 2026).
When you create an event on the phone, look at which calendar it is being saved to. An event saved to a calendar on the device that isn't tied to a Google account stays on that phone and never reaches calendar.google.com.
Refresh, update or clear the Google Calendar app
When the switches are on and events still don't arrive, force a sync and then clear out anything the app is stuck on. Try these in order and stop as soon as the events appear.
- Refresh. In the Google Calendar app, tap Menu and then Refresh.
- Update the app. Install the latest version of Google Calendar from the Play Store.
- Check Calendar storage. In Settings, open the full app list, show system apps and make sure the system app called Calendar storage is enabled.
- Free up space. If the phone's storage is nearly full, sync can stall. Check the Storage section in Settings.
- Clear the app's storage. In Settings, go to Apps, then Calendar, then Storage & cache, tap Clear storage and confirm, then restart the phone.
Google warns that clearing storage deletes events that have not synced yet, so do it last. The steps follow Google's Android sync troubleshooting page (checked 29 October 2026).
The app also only syncs past events up to one year back. Older events are still on calendar.google.com.
Gmail is not adding events to Google Calendar
When flight, hotel, restaurant or ticket bookings from Gmail don't show up in Google Calendar, the setting that allows it is usually off. It is off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland and the UK, and on by default elsewhere.
To turn it on, open Google Calendar on a computer and go to Settings, then Google Workspace smart features. Turn on Smart features in Google Workspace and save. Then return to the same screen and tick Show events from Gmail. Google describes both steps in Manage your events from Gmail (checked 29 October 2026).
Even with the setting on, Gmail skips some confirmations. Google lists emails sent to a mailing list, emails where you were only copied, and mail forwarded from another account. The feature also doesn't run on Google accounts that aren't Gmail accounts or that have data restrictions. Events from Gmail are visible only to you by default, even on a shared calendar.
Google Calendar stopped syncing on the web
On a computer, a calendar that has stopped syncing is usually signed in to the wrong Google account, open in offline mode, or a subscribed calendar that the publisher updates on their own schedule. Check which account's photo sits at the top right of calendar.google.com; a second account in the same browser shows a different set of calendars.
Offline mode works only in Chrome and keeps a copy of the last four weeks and all future events. While offline you can view events but not create or edit them, and the top right reads Offline instead of Ready for offline. Google covers this in Use Google Calendar offline (checked 29 October 2026). Reconnect and reload the page to pick up changes.
Calendars added From URL can only be subscribed to in a computer browser, and Google publishes no refresh interval for them, so a delay there is not a fault on your side. If Google Calendar is failing for everyone, the Google Workspace Status Dashboard shows any current outage.
For Google events missing in Apple's Calendar app, the fixes are different and live in Google Calendar not syncing with iPhone, with device-wide fixes in iPhone Calendar not syncing. Outlook has its own guide: Google Calendar not syncing with Outlook.
Getting another calendar's events into Google Calendar
Every fix above controls whether a Google calendar reaches your own devices. None of them bring in events from a different calendar, such as a work Outlook calendar, an iCloud calendar or a second Google account, so Google Calendar still shows those hours as free.
For that job, Keeper.sh, a managed calendar sync service, writes events from one calendar into another. Each copy is a busy block named after the source calendar, with titles, descriptions and locations hidden by default. Each connection runs one way, and adding the reverse connection makes the sync two-way.
On the Free plan, changes land every 30 minutes. On Pro, Google and Outlook changes arrive within seconds, and iCloud, Fastmail and CalDAV changes every minute. Connecting an account copies nothing by itself: you pick the destination calendar, and Keeper.sh keeps the copies in step from then on.
Frequently asked questions
How do I sync my Google Calendar across devices?
Sign in to the same Google account on each device. On Android, make sure Calendar is on under Account sync, and that Sync is on in the Google Calendar app for any calendar you created. On a computer, use calendar.google.com, which always shows what Google has stored.
Why are old events missing from the Google Calendar app?
The Android app only syncs past events up to one year back. Anything older is still in the account and can be seen on calendar.google.com in a browser.
