Outlook Calendar Not Syncing: How to Fix It, and When Outlook Cannot

Summary

If an event is correct in Outlook on the web and missing in classic Outlook, Clear Offline Items then Update Folder fixes a stale local copy, and they can stop. When hours sit on an account Outlook cannot sign into — personal Google, signed-in iCloud, or another Microsoft 365 tenant — connect both calendars in Keeper.sh and send busy-block copies onto the Outlook calendar they actually use, or the reverse. No Outlook setting writes that copy.

Their week lives in Outlook (Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, classic Outlook, new Outlook, or Outlook mobile). The weakest link is that Clear Offline Items / Update Folder and Reset Account only refresh this mailbox on this client. Add calendar / Subscribe from web is a read-only overlay on Microsoft’s clock. Connected accounts are gone from Outlook.com. Sync to the Microsoft Cloud copies a Gmail or Yahoo mailbox into Microsoft’s data centers — it does not write those hours onto the work calendar colleagues book against.

Keeper.sh writes private copies onto the calendar that stays empty: a placeholder title taken from the source calendar, description and location hidden by default. Signed-in iCloud is a valid destination, just like Google and Outlook. If they need both directions, that is two mappings. Connecting copies nothing by itself.

Clear Offline Items only refreshes this Outlook mailbox

A meeting lives on a personal Google calendar, a signed-in iCloud account, or another Microsoft 365 tenant. Work Outlook — the calendar colleagues actually book against — shows that hour free. Ticking both calendars in the Outlook sidebar only overlays them in this window. Clear Offline Items does not fill a mailbox the event never reached. A subscribed iCal URL is a read-only feed on Microsoft’s refresh clock. That is the Outlook calendar not showing events gap.

“I added an event to my outlook calendar yesterday morning. In the afternoon all calendar events for the year had disappeared.”

The same poster, after view resets, cache clears, and profile repair, wrote on 14 Jan 2026:

“All of the events are still visible on the second calendar but is not updating now. It's like something disconnected somehow?”

That is the two-calendar gap: events exist on the calendar that feeds this one; this Outlook calendar is empty. Native repair of this mailbox does not copy the other account.

For a genuine same-account Outlook calendar not updating, try this first. In classic Outlook for Windows, right-click the calendar folder, choose Properties, open the General tab, select Clear Offline Items, and click OK. Then on the ribbon go to Send/Receive and select Update Folder. Check Outlook on the web first: if the event is present on the web but missing in classic Outlook, the local folder is stale. If it is missing on the web too, it never reached this mailbox.

Microsoft does not publish an interval for “frequently updated.” It does publish two boundaries:

“Cached Exchange mode is not available in new Outlook for Windows.”

“You cannot use Cached Exchange Mode with a POP or IMAP account.”

The workaround on that page is Clear Offline Items on the General tab, or running Outlook in online mode.

Clear Offline Items then Update Folder fixes a stale local copy of this Outlook account. If that was the whole job, stop. It does not copy events from an account Outlook cannot sign into. Keeper.sh does not belong on a corrupted .ost.

Some leftover jobs look like Outlook not syncing with Google Calendar because an iCal URL was pasted into Outlook, or because both calendars are ticked in the sidebar. In Outlook on the web or new Outlook, the path is Calendar → Add calendar → Subscribe from web → paste the URL → Import.

Connected accounts are gone, and Cloud sync does not write onto the calendar they use

There are two native account-aggregation controls, and both miss the leftover job.

Forwarding moves mail. It does not move events.

iCloud is on that list for iOS, Android, and Mac — not for new Outlook for Windows. Classic Outlook for Windows is not on the list at all.

That last point is the opposite of Keeper.sh’s default. Keeper.sh copies use a placeholder title and hide description and location unless they turn those toggles on.

“Some Gmail and Yahoo accounts stopped syncing as of February 26, 2026. Accounts could also stop syncing after a password change. In both cases when Outlook stops syncing you are no longer prompted to sign in to your account.”

That page’s status is fixed, but the no-prompt shape is still how a token can lapse.

Outlook.com cannot attach Gmail any more. Sync to the Microsoft Cloud is the honest native answer for Google or Yahoo in a current Outlook app — and they can stop if seeing that account in Outlook was the whole job. It does not write a busy block onto the Outlook calendar they actually use. That leftover is a Keeper.sh connection.

Reset Account only fixes this phone

On Outlook mobile, check that the calendar list is enabled, then use Reset Account. In the Outlook app, go to Calendar, open the three-line menu, and tick Calendar under the account. Then go to Settings, tap the account that is not syncing, and tap Reset Account.

If Calendar is off, or the account is IMAP, or Reset Account was needed, the phone is hiding or not fetching this mailbox. If that was the whole job, stop. An event on Google or another tenant stays invisible on every device they own.

Put busy-block copies on the Outlook calendar they use with Keeper.sh

The leftover job is this: hours sit on Google, signed-in iCloud, or another Outlook tenant, and must exist as busy blocks on the Outlook calendar they actually use — or the reverse. Resync, cache repair, Reset Account, and overlay are native; if any of those was the whole job, stop. Keeper.sh is where they need a write copy.

If a working Keeper.sh iCloud connection later goes quiet after an Apple password change, generate a new app-specific password and paste it into Connect Apple Calendar. That is Apple’s behavior, not a Keeper.sh defect.

Connect the account the events actually live on — Google, signed-in iCloud with an Apple ID and app-specific password, or a second Outlook / Microsoft 365 tenant. Signed-in iCloud is a valid destination: one sign-in, pull and push. A pasted share, ICS, or subscribe link is not.
Open the source calendar — the one that is full. Under Send Events to Calendars, tick the destination: the Outlook calendar that stays empty, or Google / signed-in iCloud if the leftover is the reverse. One tick is one mapping. /docs/sending-events-to-another-calendar:

If they need the other direction too, open the other calendar’s page and tick back. That is two mappings, A→B and B→A, the same as Google and Outlook. One Apple ID, not two. The Free plan is 2 accounts and 3 connections, so a pair plus one extra still fits.
Leave the privacy defaults on. Copies use a placeholder title from the source calendar; description and location stay hidden. Those toggles are Pro. Guest lists are never copied. /docs/what-a-copied-event-shows, fetched 30 Aug 2026:

Confirm on the destination: a real event, named after the source calendar, no notes, no location, no guest list. Wait for the next write. Google and Outlook on Pro can land within seconds because they notify Keeper.sh; Keeper.sh does not notify them. iCloud stays on the timer on both plans.

A create still lands on the calendar that owns the event. Busy-block copies both ways means two mappings, not a separate sync mode.

Why a Keeper.sh copy instead of resync or a subscription

Clear Offline Items / Update Folder / Reset Account only refreshed this mailbox on this client. Keeper.sh writes a private copy onto the calendar that stayed empty.

Subscribe from web stacked a read-only feed on Microsoft’s approximately-3-hour / more-than-24-hour clock; Upload from file was a snapshot. Keeper.sh copies exist as real events on the destination, with a placeholder title and description and location hidden by default.

Connected accounts are gone; Cloud sync copies Gmail or Yahoo into Microsoft’s data centers and still does not write onto the work calendar colleagues book against.
